Q1. What are your top priorities if elected to the City of Bayswater council?
- Enhancing Child Safety. By upgrading traffic signs and infrastructure to create safer streets for our children.
- Revitalising the Community: Breathing new life into the Maylands Town Centre to make it an even more vibrant and welcoming space for residents and visitors alike.
- Promoting Wellness Through Sports: Establishing a pickleball centre to encourage physical activity, improve community health, and drive economic growth.
- Helping to build a city for everyone – greener, safer and more connected.
Q2. What will you do to enable more walking and cycling in the City of Bayswater?
I am aware that the Bayswater Bike Plan (2023) provides a review and replacement of the previous 2014 Local Bike Plan (LBP). I support the idea of separating bike riders from traffic where practical and feasible. According to the Plan, less than 10% of our population is likely to be confident "cyclists". Because of this, I suggest creating an infrastructure that is accessible to all ages and abilities.
Q3. What will you do to increase the City of Bayswater's tree canopy?
First, accessing and mapping the existing canopy is essential. This assessment can provide valuable data for urban planning and development, potentially leading to cost savings and increased property values. After identifying areas with low canopy cover, I suggest prioritising planting native and climate-resilient species that thrive in urban conditions and protect and retain established trees that are in good health.
Community engagement is also essential, and encouraging private landowners to plant more trees is crucial to ensuring our cities are more liveable for everyone.
Q4. What will you do to help our community reduce emissions and support a move to renewable energy?
I will focus on running awareness campaigns and educational programs, as these are effective ways to engage people. Increasing tree canopy cover is also essential for absorbing carbon and cooling urban areas. Additionally, I will support more walking and cycling by creating infrastructure that is accessible to people of all ages and abilities.
