Growing Our Garden & Community With Bendigo Bank Bayswater

Thanks to our Bendigo Bank Bayswater Sponsorship we have just celebrated one year of Social Gardening, our weekly garden drop-in morning. Social Gardening is a highlight of the week at Enviro House, for our regular and new garden volunteers or for those who just want to drop in for a chat. It's a great way to connect with others, learn and have a laugh while growing veggies, looking after the chooks, cooking up hot compost and enjoying a delicious morning tea with great company.

We recently asked two of our regular Social Gardeners, Deb and Greg, about their experiences being involved and volunteering in the garden.

How did you hear about Enviro House and the Social Gardening?

Greg received the Enviro House emails after we came to a couple of gardening workshops. He saw the ad for Social Gardening and asked if I'd like to do it with him. I thought it would be a fun thing to do together.

What motivated you to get involved in garden volunteering?

We both enjoy gardening and are keen to learn how to be better gardeners. We really liked the feel of Enviro House when we came to some gardening workshops and so decided to try the social gardening. It's a positive way to give back to the community in a small way.

What do you like about Social Gardening Fridays and being a volunteer with Enviro House?

All the people are great! Our Coordinator, Lara, is so friendly and welcoming. We enjoy chatting and gardening with the other volunteers, and with the volunteers in the shop too. We laugh a lot and enjoy seeing the garden grow. The chooks are a joy too – except when they eat the vegies we're trying to grow!

What would you suggest to someone that is considering volunteering in the garden or other roles at Enviro House?

This place in a gem. It is such a welcoming place, and everyone is keen to make a positive contribution to the environment at a local level. We are very glad to be involved. If you are thinking about it, just come along – you'll feel welcome and at home straight away and it won't take you long to figure out what kind of volunteering you'd like to do. Bring a friend if you like. If you can't come every Friday, that's absolutely fine - just come when you can.

Social Gardening - Every Friday

Social Gardening Fridays @ Enviro House

Come and join us for some social fun in the garden. A relaxed morning of casual gardening with no regular commitment required. It doesn't matter if you're a beginner or an experienced gardener as we all learn from each other and have a laugh in the process! You can do as little or as much as you like to help and learn to grow vegetables, herbs, flowers, fruit trees and native plants and look after our chickens, worm farms and compost.  Drop in, enjoy some time in nature and stay for a cuppa and a chat.

To find out more email Lara at garden@envirohouse.org.au, call 92714488 or just turn up, Fridays 9:15 AM to 12:00PM at Enviro House, 125 king William St Bayswater
