Cycling Without Age
The story behind Cycling Without Age
Cycling Without Age was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark by Ole Kassow in 2012, after he met an elderly man who had once been an avid cyclist but could no longer ride. Ole built a trishaw with two front-facing seats and took the man for a ride — the experience was so joyful that the idea snowballed. He began offering free rides to local nursing home residents, then partnered with Copenhagen city consultant Dorthe Pedersen to purchase five trishaws and formally launch the organisation.
Since 2015, Cycling Without Age has spread to 42 countries, with thousands of volunteer "pilots" providing free trishaw rides to elderly people and those with limited mobility. The initiative aims to combat social isolation, foster intergenerational connections, and reconnect people with their community and the outdoors.
Cycling Without Age Australia has member groups across the country, including chapters here in Perth. Our chapter — CWA Perth — operates a fleet of trishaws with the help of many dedicated volunteer pilots.
Program support
The Cycling Without Age Perth – Bayswater Hub was made possible by a generous grant from Community Bank Bayswater, which funded the purchase of an electric trishaw to launch the Hub. This initiative allows people of all ages to enjoy trishaw rides through local wetlands and riverside areas, fostering joy, wellbeing, and connection to the environment.
Plan your ride
We offer free trishaw rides for up to two passengers through Riverside Gardens and Baigup Wetlands.
Find us every Friday morning, 9.30am–11.30am, leaving from opposite EnviroHouse.

Our Trishaw "Glenys"
One of our trishaws is named Glenys, in honour of Glenys Davies — a long-time volunteer and environmental advocate whose generous, warm and determined spirit continues to inspire us. A founding member of EnviroHouse, Glenys coordinated volunteers, ran a Saturday stall at Perth City Farm, and campaigned on causes including opposing uranium mining and a nuclear waste dump in Western Australia. Her vision and long-term commitment played a big part in why EnviroHouse is still here today.
Every ride taken in "Glenys" carries forward that spirit — and we hope riders and pilots enjoy many wonderful journeys in her honour.
