Growing Our Garden & Community
Grow, connect and learn
The EnviroHouse garden comprises of attractive, waterwise native vegetation at the front and side, and a permaculture inspired backyard with vegetables, herbs, flowers, fruit trees, worm farms, other composts and chickens.
It is a welcoming garden for people to connect with nature, explore, learn in and enjoy. Our friendly hens attract many visitors every week, and the frog pond is a nice retreat for our amphibian neighbours of the adjacent wetlands.
Social Gardening Fridays is a great way to connect with others, learn and have fun while growing veggies, looking after the chooks, building compost, tending to the native gardens and enjoying a morning tea with friendly company.
We asked two of our regular Social Gardeners, Deb and Greg, about their experiences being involved and volunteering in the garden.
Greg received the EnviroHouse emails after we came to a couple of gardening workshops. He saw the ad for Social Gardening and asked if I'd like to do it with him. I thought it would be a fun thing to do together.
We both enjoy gardening and are keen to learn how to be better gardeners. We really liked the feel of EnviroHouse when we came to some gardening workshops and so decided to try the social gardening. It's a positive way to give back to the community in a small way.
All the people are great! Our Coordinator, Lara, is so friendly and welcoming. We enjoy chatting and gardening with the other volunteers, and with the volunteers in the shop too. We laugh a lot and enjoy seeing the garden grow. The chooks are a joy too – except when they eat the veggies we're trying to grow!
This place in a gem. It is such a welcoming place, and everyone is keen to make a positive contribution to the environment at a local level. We are very glad to be involved. If you are thinking about it, just come along – you'll feel welcome and at home straight away and it won't take you long to figure out what kind of volunteering you'd like to do. Bring a friend if you like. If you can't come every Friday, that's absolutely fine - just come when you can.
Social Gardening Fridays is part of our Bendigo Bank Growing Well Program proudly sponsored by Community Bank Bayswater.
Come and join us for a relaxed morning of social gardening — no experience or regular commitment required! Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned green thumb, we learn from each other and have a laugh along the way. Pitch in as little or as much as you like, helping to grow vegetables, herbs, flowers, fruit trees and native plants, and lending a hand with our chickens, worm farms and compost. Drop in, enjoy some time in nature, and stay for a cuppa and a chat.
To find out more email or just turn up on Fridays 9:15am to 12pm.
