Turtle Trackers

Many wetland areas across the southwest and metro area including within the City of Bayswater are home to the near threatened Southwest Snake-necked Turtle (Chelodina oblonga). In spring and summer (peaking September–November) these turtles travel away from the wetland to search for a nesting site. During this journey, they are vulnerable to vehicle strike and predation. Turtle hatchlings are also vulnerable between May and August as they make their way to the wetland.

How you can help our Turtles

• Record your turtle and nest sightings using TurtleSAT app
• They are not lost — if they need help, assist them in the direction they were heading
• Keep your dogs on a lead
• Protect them from predators. It is best to keep your distance, but you can wave off ravens if they are attacking
• Drive slowly around wetlands
