Urban Bushland and Wetlands

Environment House has been involved in conservation of our natural heritage since our inception. At a local level, we are currently involved with a number of Friends Groups along the Maylands and Bayswater sections of the Swan River including - Friends of Maylands Samphires (FoMS), Baigup Wetlands Interest Group and the Friends of Eric Singleton Wetlands.

If you would like to volunteer with a local group come and see us, or visit the Urban Bushland Council website to find a group near you.

The Friends of Maylands Samphires are helping to regenerate an area of samphires and saltbushes alongside the beautiful Swan River at Clarkson Reserve, Maylands. These tough salt tolerant plants help filter out pollutants and nutrients and provide a wonderful habitat for all kinds of birds. The group meets to weed every Tuesday morning. | Email FoMS

Friends of Eric Singleton Wetlands formed in 2017 after the successful community campaign to protect the wetlands from development. This active group meets regularly to weed, plant, carry out educational activities and advocate for the wetland areas within Riverside Gardens, Bayswater.

Baigup Wetlands Interest Group aim is to see Baigup Wetlands protected and preserved into the future as an important natural resource for wildlife, the health of the Swan River and for human recreation, wellbeing and education. Visit BWIG website | Email BWIG

No Houses in Wetlands was formed in July 2016 to try and (successfully!) halt the destruction of the Carter's Wetland in Bayswater.
